TOPEKA, Kan. – The ACU Wildcats split a pair of matches Friday at the Washburn Regional Crossover Tournament, knocking off Nebraska-Omaha in four sets before losing to Washburn in three sets at Lee Arena.
The day's split leaves the Wildcats at 9-8 on the season with Saturday matches set for 9 a.m. against Emporia State (Kan.) and 3 p.m. against Truman State (Mo.). Emporia State and Truman State also each split a pair of matches Saturday.
The Wildcats started the day with a 25-13, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13 win over Nebraska-Omaha (2-17 on the season) before dropping a 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 decision to a Washburn team that is 14-1 on the season.
In the win over Nebraska-Omaha the Wildcats finished with 13 blocks and limited the Mavericks to an .057 hitting percentage. Omaha committed 30 attack errors in the match and also had nine receiving errors, five service errors, three blocking errors and one ball-handling error.
ACU, meanwhile, was led by senior
Jennie Hutt, who had 19 kills and 14 digs, while freshman
Sara Oxford had 12 kills and two blocks while hitting .391. Sophomore middle
Neely Borger had 11 kills, three blocks and a team-high four service aces for the Wildcats.
In the loss to Washburn, ACU hit just .019 as a team with 21 kills and 19 errors on 108 total attacks. Hutt again led the Wildcats with eight kills, whle Breanna Lewis led the Lady Blues with 10 kills.
