SAN ANTONIO – The Abilene Christian women's volleyball team lost in five sets to Incarnate Word Monday night at the McDermott Center.
Jennie Hutt recorded 19 kills in the losing effort as the Wildcats fell to 7-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
The Cardinals, who nearly pulled off a similar comeback last Tuesday at Moody Coliseum, improved to 6-7 and 3-4 against the league.
The Wildcats won first set behind a .404 hitting percentage, 25-18, and then edged the Cardinals in the second, 25-22. But the 2-0 lead slipped out from under them as Incarnate Word won the final three sets by margins of 8, 12 and 10 points.
ACU hit .129 for the match but registered just one more kill (21) than error (20) in sets three through five. Simultaneously, the Cardinals were nearly unstoppable, hitting better than .350 in each of their winning sets. They also outblocked the Wildcats, 12.0 to 5.0.
Incarnate Word had three players with 12 kills or more led by Daniella Vidaurri with15. She also played a role in 10 blocks, including five solo efforts.
ACU returns to Moody Coliseum Thursday and Saturday for games against West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico. Games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. Live stats will be made available via ACUSports.com.
