ABILENE – Freshman Mack Lankford continued to earn region accolades as she was named Daktronics Second Team all-Region as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Lankford a freshman from Weatherford, Texas, was the second leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference South averaging 19.3 points per game. She was also tops in the conference for steals in the league averaging 2.5 steals per game.
Last week, Lankford was named LSC Freshman of the Year and named LSC First Team for her play during conference. Lankford helped lead the Wildcats to their fifth consecutive LSC Tournament appearance where they fell in the first round to Northeastern State. She was also the only freshman named to either team.
Senior Alli Volkens of Emporia State was named South Central Region Player of the Year. Volkens – who led the Lady Hornets to the 2010 NCAA Division II national championship and was named the Elite Eight's Most Outstanding Player – led Emporia State to a 20-9 season in 2010-11 and along the way led the MIAA in rebounds at 12.2 per game, while scoring 17.6 points per game.
Each member of the first team all-region squad will automatically advance to the ballot for the Daktronics all-America team.
