Wildcats lose at Tarleton


STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton State Texans held ACU scoreless for the first 4:09 of the game Wednesday night as they ran away from the Wildcats for an 82-61 win in Lone Star Conference South Division men's basketball action at Wisdom Gym.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 9-16 overall and 1-12 in the LSC South, while the Texans improve to 21-4 and 12-1.  ACU will wrap up the 2010-11 season Saturday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Midwestern State at Moody Coliseum.

Tarleton jumped out to an 8-0 lead and one of the nation's top defensive units held the Wildcats scoreless until Alex  Richman hit a 3-pointer with 15:51 left in the first half for ACU's first points of the game.  ACU wouldn't score again from the field until Ben Warton hit a driving layup with 13:02 left in the first half to cut Tarleton's lead to 13-9.

ACU was able to keep the Tarleton lead to 5-7 points before the Texans were able to run off 14-2 spurt to end the half with a 38-22 lead.  The closest the Wildcats were able to get was 12 points early in the second half.

Warton led the Wildcats with 18 points off the bench, while Preston Davis had 12 points for ACU.
