WICHITA FALLS – Midwestern State shot 56 percent and 11 players scored Saturday night as the No. 23 Mustangs rolled to an 84-62 win over ACU in Lone Star Conference South Division men's basketball action at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in the LSC South, while the Mustangs improve to 13-3 and 1-1. ACU will be back in action Wednesday in Canyon when it takes on West Texas A&M at 8 p.m.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures – led by
Eric Milam's 15-point effort – but it wasn't enough for ACU, which lost to Midwestern State for the fifth straight time and 12th time in the last 13 meetings between the teams.
ACU – which trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half – was down 35-25 at halftime and actually cut the lead to six points (38-32) when
Giordan Cole scored on a tip-in with 18:06 left in the game. Midwestern State responded, however, with a 10-4 run to pull away from the Wildcats.
Kevin Loyd got the run started with 3-pointer to make it 41-32 with 17:23 to play, and Charlie Logan capped it with a dunk at the 15:52 mark to give the Mustangs a 48-36 lead. The Wildcats would not threaten the rest of the night.
Adrian Van Buren led the Mustangs in scoring with 14 points off the bench, while Logan finished with 13 points.
Aside from Milam's 15-point effort,
Preston Davis scored 14 points for the Wildcats, while
Vladimir Gavranic had 12 and
Alex Richman 11.
