Wildcats Split With Rambelles

ABILENE – ACU and Angelo State tangled in a pair of shutouts on Friday afternoon with both teams earning a win at Wells Field. The Wildcats took game one, 4-0 as the 17th ranked Rambells won game two, 9-0.

The Wildcats recorded seven hits in each game as Missy Mendoza had a pair of hits including a grand slam. Mendoza's slam was the only runs scored in game one as Caitlin Nabors, Shawna Barrow and Stephanie Tingle loaded the bases in the bottom of the third.

Freshmen Shelby Hall shutout the Rambelles for her 15th complete game and eighth win of the season.  Hall held Angelo State to just five hits over seven innings while adding four strikeouts handing the Rambells their third consecutive loss.

Game two was not as kind to the Wildcats. ACU allowed nine runs on 12 hits as they dropped the night cap 9-0. The shutout was only the third of the season for the Wildcats as they dropped games to East Central and Midwestern teams both ranked in the top 10 of the South Central Region.

Angelo State held the Wildcats to only seven hits, but ACU left 12 base runners in the loss. Barrow was on base four times going 2-for-2 with two walks. The all-time leader in steals at ACU also stole a base giving her 39 for the season.

ACU and ASU finish their series on Saturday at Wells field with first pitch scheduled for noon.
