WICHITA FALLS – Wildcat hoops travel to Midwestern State on Saturday for a Lone Star South Division matchup with the women's game providing post-season implications. In the men's game the Wildcats will try to end the Mustangs 25-game home win streak at D.L. Ligon Coliseum with women's tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
The women are two wins away from clinching a spot in the LSC post-season tournament with three regular season game remaining. ACU can also clinch a spot with a win over Midwestern State and an Eastern New Mexico win as the Zias play against Angelo State tonight.
The Wildcats are 15-9 overall and 5-4 in the LSC traveling to Wichita Falls where ACU has struggled winning their first game at D.L. Ligon last season since 1998. The Wildcats are coming off a loss at the buzzer to Tarleton State 64-66. Senior Jamie Meyer scored a season high 34 points in the loss which was also a team high for ACU.
Last month the Wildcats broke a two-game losing streak to the Lady Mustangs in Abilene with a hard fought 73-66 win. ACU came back from seven down to take 32-31 at intermission and reeled off the first six points to open the second half to take their biggest lead, 38-31. ACU would never trail in the second half as they ended their losing streak, led by Jamie Meyer who finished with a game high 20 points.
The men will be looking to end a three game skid after falling to Tarleton State Tuesday night 60-70.
ACU lost a tough one last month to the Mustangs after Eddie Thompson hit a three to give the Wildcats a one-point lead with 2 seconds left. MSU missed an open look, but Craig Green's tip-in at the buzzer gave the Mustangs the one-point victory. The Mustangs were ranked-No. 10 at the time and have since moved to No. 9 in the NABC poll, as ACU will have the task of trying to end Midwestern State's 25-game home winning streak.
All the action will be carried on Classic Country KKYW 1470 AM with the women's game scheduled for 6 p.m. and the men's game to follow.
