ABILENE –
Preston Davis hit a jumper just inside the three-point line with 2 seconds left to give ACU an 88-86 win over Texas A&M-Commerce inside Moody Coliseum in Lone Star Conference Crossover action on Saturday.
ACU led by as many as 13 in the second half before Desmond King hit a free throw cutting the Wildcat lead to 82-80 with 31 seconds left.
Desmond Woodberry would sink two free throws for the Wildcats giving ACU a two possession lead at 84-80.
LaBree Sledge would nail a three pointer in the corner to cut the ACU lead to one with 18 seconds left. After a Lion foul sending
Marcus Washington to the line ACU would hold a three point lead with just 15 seconds left, but Sledge would respond with a contested three to tie the game at 86-86 with 9 seconds left.
However Davis would receive the in-bounds pass and race to the opposite end sinking a jumper just inside the three point line with two seconds on the clock. A&M-Commerce would have a chance with 1 second left with a three-quarter court shot that fell short.
The Wildcats got 51 points from their bench and 23 second chance points to push the Wildcats to their third win of the season.
Vladimir Gravranic led the Wildcats with 15 points off the bench.
Woodberry added 13 points for ACU going a perfect 5 of 5 from the free throw line.
Desmond King led all scorers with 25 points for the Lions.
ACU will return to action next Saturday when they head to Oklahoma for a Lone Star Conference Crossover series with Northeastern State before traveling to Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 4 pm in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
