ABILENE – The No. 21 ACU volleyball team defended their ranking the same way the earned it Tuesday night in a straight set victory over Angelo State. ACU committed only four errors through the first two sets as they move to 14-3 in a rare non-conference match.
The Wildcats picked up the first two sets handily 25-16, and 25-13 before putting the Rambelles away 25-19. ACU continues their home stand on Thursday night as the return to Lone Star Conference play with Central Oklahoma as ASU falls to 7-10 on the season.
ACU had two players hitting over .500 as
Neely Borger hit .556 while
Shawna Hines hit an even .500 with a game high 11 kills. Hines also added eight blocks while accounting for 16.5 points for the Wildcats while Borger added six kills and four blocks.
In the second set sophomore
Kalynne Allen served out 13 straight points for the Wildcats breaking a 13-13 tie.
Jordan Schilling recorded three kills during the stretch while Hines added three blocks of her own in front of a raucous ACU crowd.
Also during the second set the Wildcats hit a hot .440 while holding the Rambelles to a -.081 hitting percentage. ACU was errorless in the set with 11 kills on 25 attempts.
LSC Defensive Player of the Week
Kelsie Edwards was solid again with a game high 14 digs while Schilling was close behind with 11 narrowly missing a double-double.
ACU continues their home stand Thursday night in a LSC battle with Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside Moody Coliseum.
