ABILENE – Just a week after
Ashley Holton recorded a hat trick freshman
Andrea Carpenter duplicated it putting three goals past Eastern New Mexico as the Wildcats cruised to a 3-1 win on Sunday at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.
Carpenter's three goals push her past Holton for the season with 12 as both broke the individual single season record for goals in a season this weekend. Her first goal of the game came on a pass in the middle of the box in the 13th minute from
Courtney Wilson giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
ACU would hold the Zias without a shot in the first half as they took a one point lead into half. However Carpenter would pass Holton just 10 minutes into the second period on a header from
Julie Coppedge giving ACU all they would need.
Carpenter again added her third goal and 12th of the season as
Krysta Grimm found her just five yards out in the 64th minute. The goal gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead they would hold until the Zias would get on the scoreboard later in the 81st minute.
Justine Tydings added the only goal for Eastern New Mexico.
The Wildcats moved to 9-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Lone Star Conference while ENMU falls to 3-9 and 0-5 in league play.
The Wildcats return to action next weekend as they host their final two home games of the 2010 season. ACU will host Central Oklahoma on Friday with a 4 p.m. kickoff before Sunday afternoon's match with Southwestern Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
