ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats got their season started Friday at the Nebraska-Omaha Volleyball Classic, but things didn't turn out the way they anticipated as they dropped a pair of matches at the Sapp Fieldhouse on the UNO campus.
ACU dropped its first match of the tournament, falling in four sets (25-14, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19) to ninth-ranked Truman State. The Wildcats then dropped their second match of the day to the host Lady Mavs of UNO, falling in three hard-fought sets, 30-28, 25-20, 25-22.
The Wildcats will be back in action Saturday with a pair of matches against North Alabama (2 p.m.) and Minnesota-Mankato (6:30 p.m.).
Junior middle blocker
Shawna Hines led the Wildcat effort with 21 kills and six total blocks. Hines had a .267 hitting percentage on the day, but she was one of only two Wildcats who hit better than .167 on the day.
The Wildcats -- who struggled to put balls away in 2008 -- struggled in that area Friday as they hit just .164 on the day while their opponents hit .258.
