PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The ACU Wildcats swept a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Pittsburg State Invitational, including a 3-1 win over No. 21 Pitt State at John Lance Arena.
Earlier Saturday, the Wildcats knocked off Newman (Kan.), 3-1, and then came back to beat the Gorillas by the same score. ACU has now beaten Pitt State twice this season, and the two wins push the Wildcats to 15-5 on the season.
The Wildcats knocked off the Gorillas, 25-21, 25-15, 19-25, 26-24, in the final match of the tournament.
Four Wildcats finished in double figures in kills, led by sophomore outside hitter
Jennie Hutt's 16 kills.
Jordan Schilling finished with 15 kills, while
Michelle Bacon added 10. Junior middle blocker
Shawna Hines had 12 kills and six total blocks as ACU finished with 17 total blocks.
With the fourth set tied 23-23, the Wildcats took the lead on a block by Hines and
Ijeoma Moronu. The Gorillas, though, got it tied at 24-24 on a kills by Pamela Cartagena.
But the Wildcats closed out the match on a kill by Hutt to make it 25-24 and a block by
Lauren Leone and Moronu.
