Wildcats Put Away Aggies 3-2

ABILENE – Shawna Hines tied a career high with 10 blocks and added eight kills as the Wildcats defeated Cameron 3-2 on Saturday inside Moody Coliseum. Jennie Hutt, Jordan Schilling and Ijeoma Moronu all recorded double-doubles as ACU improves to 22-5 and 8-1 on the season while Cameron fell to 14-11 and 2-7 in the conference.

Hutt had led the Wildcats with 18 kills and 16 digs, while Schilling added 12 kills and 25 digs. Moronu had 41 assists and 10 for consecutive double-doubles.

After winning the first two sets which was highlighted by a handful of Hines blocks, the Wildcats had costly errors preventing them from putting the Aggies away. Cameron built off a solid third set where they hit .283 and won back-to-back sets forcing a deciding fifth set.

Hutt and Schilling both had some powerful kills which helped propel the Wildcats in the final set. The Wildcats fell behind at 2-3, but raced back to take the lead after a kill by Moronu put the Wildcats up 6-5. Just as ACU was not able to put Cameron away in earlier sets, the Aggies hung around in the fifth set tying the game at 7. Erin Curry's sixth kill gave the Wildcats the lead for good as they went on the score the final four points of the game.

The Aggies were led by Lindsay Paziuk who had 21 kills and Laura Ellerbrock recording 45 assists both were game highs.

The win is the 10th in a row for the Wildcats and they remain undefeated inside Moody Coliseum at 10-0. It is also the 15th consecutive home win for ACU dating back to October 23 of last season.

The Wildcats return home for the final non-conference match of 2009 as they host Texas-Permian Basin. The match is the Wildcats annual DIG PINK For Breast Cancer Awareness, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to help support the cause.
