ABILENE – Sitting in second place in the Lone Star Conference the Wildcats will host Texas-Permian Basin in their annual DIG PINK For Breast Cancer Awareness match on Tuesday October 27 at Moody Coliseum. Dig Pink, a Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation is being held throughout October with thousands of college, high school and middle school teams from around the country taking part.
Wildcat fans are encouraged to wear pink to Tuesday's match to help contribute to breast health awareness and making a statement. A guest speaker will be on hand as well speaking between sets two and three. Before, during and after the volleyball match individuals will be on hand to receive your donations which will benefit the Side-Out Foundation.
Along with this special event the Wildcats who are ranked No. 7 in the South Central Region, have also invited area middle school teams to join them for the game. Jr. High teams will be recognized in attendance as a part of Jr. High night as well.
The Side-Out Foundation has raised funds for Breast Cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling which is where there is a hot bed of research activity. Their name underscores the purpose of the organization - "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against Breast Cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.
The Side-Out Foundation has already raised $390,000 in 2009 with a goal of $1,000,000 by 2010. Any donations collected at the match will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area.
