ABILENE -- St. Edward's University lived up to its No. 3 national ranking at the Diamondback Golf Course as the Hilltoppers shot a final-round 283 on Tuesday to finish at 559 and claim the team championship at the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate.

The Hilltoppers backed up their opening-round 276 with a safe 283 on Tuesday as they cruised to a 10-stroke victory over Cameron, which finished second at 569. The hosts from ACU finished third at 575. The Aggies of Cameron came from two shots behind the Wildcats after the first round to move past the Wildcats into second place in the final standings.

Collin Mayer led the way for the Hilltoppers as he fired back-to-back rounds of 3-under-par 68 to win the individual medalist title with a 6-under-par 136. Peter Svajlen of Cameron finished second at 138 (71-67) with Cyril Bouniol (70-69), Kevin Doskocil of Texas Wesleyan (70-69) and Patrick Hanauer of ACU (68-71) finished tied for third at 139. Those five golfers were named to the all-tournament team.

Mayer opened his final round on Tuesday with a birdie-par-par, then closed with another birdie at No. 9. He also birdied No. 15 and then came in with three straight pars to close out his second straight 68. Svajlen made a serious run at the individual title with a birdie at No. 2, an eagle at No. 5 and another birdie at No. 8. But he bogeyed No. 14 and had eight pars on the back nine as he was unable to sustain his momentum.
