Wildcats 2nd at The Territory

DUNCAN, Okla. -- The ACU golf team finished in second place Tuesday at The Territory Classic, finishing 14 shots behind tournament champion Texas Wesleyan.
The Wildcats -- ranked No. 13 in the nation in this week's Golf World Coaches' poll -- put together back-to-back rounds of 293 to finish the 36-hole tournament at The Territory Golf Club at 586, 14 strokes behind Wesleyan, which also won the team championship at last week's Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate in Abilene. St. Mary's was third in the team race at 587 (296-291), while Central Oklahoma (293-296--589) was fourth and Southwestern Oklahoma State (306-284--590) was fifth. Defending tournament champion and host Cameron was seventh (298-296--594).
Wesleyan, which shot rounds of 288 and 284 for a two-round total of 572, was paced by individual champion Mitch Hendon, who shot a two-round total of 139 (70-69), while his teammate, Paco Saracho, was second in the individual medalist race at 141 (72-69). ACU's top finisher on the par-70, 6,614-yard layout was Patrick Hanauer, who finished tied for seventh at 5-over-par 145 (72-73).
Erik Manning was tied for 10th at 6-over-par 146 (77-69), while Hilton Funk was tied for 24th (75-74--149), Stephen Knight finished tied for 31st (72-78--150) and Charles Levitte finished tied for 36th (74-77--151).
The Wildcats will be back in action Oct. 1-2 at the Grand Canyon University Fall Classic in Phoenix.
