ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcat golf team finished fifth out of 17 teams in its own Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate tournament as play concluded Tuesday afternoon at the Diamondback Country Club.
After shooting a first-round 290 on Monday, the five-man Wildcat squad shot a second-round 295 to finish +17 overall (585) for the tournament.
Texas Wesleyan, a NAIA school, won the Coody by shooting a -2 overall (566). St. Edward's finished in second with a 570 overall. Rounding out the top four were two Lone Star Conference teams; Southeastern Oklahoma finished in third (578) and Central Oklahoma finished in fourth (583).
The Wildcats were led by freshman Charles Levitte (a native of France), who finished tied for fifth after shooting a -1 overall (141). Other top-performers for ACU included senior Erik Manning, who finished tied for 19th after shooting +4 overall (146), and junior Patrick Hanauer, who finished tied for 31st after shooting +7 overall (149).
ACU returns to action next week when they travel to Duncan, Okla., to compete in The Territory Classic. The tournament will begin on Monday, Sept. 17, and will conclude on Tuesday.
