Montgomery, Bennett headline all-time team

Six former Wildcats unanimously named to ACU's all-time team

ABILENE -- Former ACU football greats Wilbert Montgomery and Chip Bennett, along with former head coaches Garvin Beauchamp and Wally Bullington, headline the school's All-Century Football Team, which was released Wednesday.

Montgomery was chosen as the Offensive MVP on the team, while Bennett was named the Defensive MVP on the squad.  Beauchamp and Bullington were named the team's co-head coaches.

The 56 players and two coaches chosen to be part of the team were selected by a panel of 10 former coaches, players, sports information directors and Abilene media who have watched or been a part of ACU football each year since 1948.  ACU began intercollegiate footbal in 1919 and the ballot included players from Wildcat all-decade teams from the 1920s through the 1990s.  Three players from the 2004 squad -- defensive end Clayton Farrell, placekicker Eben Nelson and defensive back Danieal Manning - also were placed on the ballot for their extraordinary play during the 2000s.

Montgomery and Bennett were two of six players who were unanimous choices for the team, joining running back V.T. Smith, offensive lineman Grant Feasel, defensive back Chuck Sitton and Manning.
