Wildcats capture LSC South Division title
ACU will be LSC South's No. 1 seed in tournament
ABILENE -- ACU junior Michelle Bernhardt and freshman Abbie Lowry had 12 kills each Tuesday as the Wildcats clinched their first Lone Star Conference South Division title with a 30-25, 30-22, 30-22 win over Angelo State University at Moody Coliseum.
The win pushes the Wildcats to 24-7 overall and 9-1 in the LSC South Division and gives them the top seed for the LSC Post-Season Tournament, which will be played Nov. 11-13 in Lawton, Okla., the site of LSC North Division champion Cameron.
Setter Lindsey Martin added 41 assists as her team totaled 48 kills in the match. ACU's two seniors also joined in the fun as libero Kellen Morrow had a team-high 13 digs, while middle blocker Sophia Kindred had seven kills and six digs.
The first game was close but the Wildcats closed out a 30-25 win with a service ace by Amanda Slate. The second game was a different story, as ACU never trailed and capitalized on seven ASU's attack errors to take a 30-22 win. The Wildcats continued their dominance in the third game and used a late 6-1 run to seize the match and their first LSC South Division crown.
ACU concludes its season Friday with a match against Incarnate Word and Saturday against St. Mary's as a warm-up for next week's conference tournament.
