Wildcats roll to 4-0 in LSC South
ACU sweeps Tarleton, Kingsville on road
ACU continued its roll through the Lone Star Conference South Division over the weekend, improving to 4-0 in division play with a pair of three-game sweeps over Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Wildcats knocked off Tarleton State, 30-23, 30-26, 30-21, Thursday in Stephenville, and then went to Kingsville for a 30-18, 30-23, 30-23, win on Saturday. ACU is 18-6 overall and ranked a solid No. 4 in the initial NCAA Division II Southwest Region poll. The top eight teams in the region at the end of the regular season will reach the regional tournament.
Thursday at Stephenville, Amanda Slate and Ashlee Motola each had 14 kills and Michelle Bernhardt added 12 as ACU hit .299 as a team. Junior setter Lindsey Martin shook off the effects of an injury she suffered last Tuesday at Lubbock Christian by dishing out 46 assists and putting down four kills.
Saturday at Kingsville, the Wildcats totally dominated the Lady Javelinas, taking care of TAMK in just 80 minutes. Slate had 14 more kills (.591 hitting percentage) to go along with four block assists and two aces, while freshman Abbie Lowry had 13 kills and Bernhardt 12. Martin had 52 more asists, and Kellen Morrow led the team with 12 digs.
The Wildcats hit .308 as a team compared to jut .059 for the Lady Javelinas.
ACU will return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts St. Edward's at Moody Coliseum. The Wildcats will then go back on the road for a key division matchup at Angelo State on Thursday. Both teams are 4-0 in LSC South Division play.
