ACU outslasts ENMU, 3-2
The Wildcats improved to 2-0 in LSC South Division with tough win
ABILENE -- ACU improved to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference South Division play Saturday with a hard-fought five-game win over Eastern New Mexico at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats rallied from an 11-3 deficit to win the first game 30-27 before dropping the second game 30-25. ACU won the third game 30-18, lost the fourth 30-27, but then dominated the fifth game, winning 15-6 to take the match.
The win was the 10th straight for the Wildcats, who are now 16-5 overall and atop the LSC South Division, along with Angelo State, after both teams beat West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico this weekend.
Junior outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt led the Wildcats with 25 kills and 23 digs Saturday afternoon, including four kills in the decisive fifth game. The Wildcats were not to be denied in the fifth game as they had 11 kills and hit .625 compared to three kills and a .167 hitting percentage in the game for the Zias. Junior middle blocker Amanda Slate -- who slammed down 13 kills of her own -- finished off the match on a kill from setter Lindsey Martin, who had 70 assists in the match.
ACU will return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when it takes on NAIA power Lubbock Christian in Lubbock. The Wildcats beat LCU in three games in Abilene on Sept. 7.
