Slate leads ACU into first place in LSC South
SAN ANGELO -- ACU junior middle blocker Amanda Slate pounded out 16 kills Thursday night to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Angelo State in a key Lone Star Conference South Division match at the Junell Center.
ACU won the first game 30-27, followed by 30-24, 30-27 wins to take the match.
The Wildcats' fourth straight win pushes them to 20-6 overall and 5-0 in the division. ACU is in sole possession of first place in the division, one game ahead of Angelo State, which is now 4-1. ACU will not return to action until next weekend when it goes on the road to play at Eastern New Mexico (Thursday) and at West Texas A&M (Saturday).
Slate -- No. 2 in the LSC in hitting percentage entering the match at .345 -- hit .480 in Thursday's match on 25 total attacks (16 kills, 4 errors). She also had four block assists to lead ACU to the straight-set win.
Ashlee Motola had nine kills and Michelle Bernhardt eight for the Wildcats, who hit .274 in the match. Junior setter Lindsey Martin had 45 assists and Bernhardt had a team-high 13 digs.
The Rambelles had three players -- Amber Smith, Nicole Stoffel and Lynelle Morelan -- with 10 kills each, but no other player had more than five. Also, ASU hit just .190 in the match, including .108 in the key second game.
