Wilson scores 21 to lead ACU to win
Hot-shooting Wildcats win fourth straight, 71-62 over Cameron
LAWTON, Okla. – ACU set a school record Thursday night by hitting 12 3-point shots en route to a 71-62 win over Cameron in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Aggie Gym.
The win is the fourth straight for the ACU women, who are now 7-6 overall heading into Saturday's 2 p.m. game at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla. Cameron, meanwhile, falls to 5-5 on the season.
ACU was 12 of 25 from 3-point range to break the previous school record for 3-pointers made in a game, which was 11 set last Feb. 14 in a Wildcat win at Texas A&M-Kingsville. ACU was 7 of 13 from long range in the first half and 5 of 12 from the arc in the second half.
The Wildcats built a nine-point lead at the half (39-30), and, although Cameron was able to cut the lead to 45-43 with 13:43 to play, the Wildcats never relinquished the lead. In fact, after Cameron cut the lead to two points, the Wildcats went on a 20-6 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 65-49 lead with just 3:25 to play.
ACU's lead never dipped below nine points the rest of the way.
Junior forward Leah Wilson scored a career-high 21 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Freshman sensation Ashley King scored 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting, including 5 of 7 from long range. Junior all-America center Melanie Carter was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 10.
