Wildcats rip East Central, 76-53
Third straight win pushes ACU's record to 6-6
ABILENE -- Ten Wildcat players scored points Saturday afternoon as ACU rolled past East Central, 76-53, in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Moody Coliseum.
ACU's junior all-America center Melanie Carter led all scorers with 18 points as she led the Wildcats to the win. The Wildcats' third straight victory pushes their record to 6-6 overall going into next Thursday's 6 p.m. road game at Cameron.
Stephanie Riles, Jackie Vinson and Jenny Jackson had eight points for ACU, while Lynsie Blau, Ashley King and Sara McBroom had seven for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats also used a suffocating defensive effort to force the Lady Tigers into 24 turnovers and hold them to a porous 38-percent shooting night from the field (17 for 44).
The Lady Tigers had the Wildcats' lead down to 45-36 with 12:37 to play, but ACU reeled off a 17-6 run over the next five minutes to take a 62-41 lead with 7:23 to play. The Lady Tigers never got the lead below 19 points in the game's final seven minutes.
