Melanie Carter records 'double-double' win LSC crossover win
ABILENE – Melanie Carter led four Wildcats in double figures Thursday night as ACU started the new year off on the right foot with a 71-62 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Moody Coliseum.
ACU's second straight win improves its record to 5-6 with Saturday's 2 p.m. home game against East Central Oklahoma looming. Southeastern Oklahoma – the defending NCAA Division II runner-up – falls to 3-5.
The Wildcats never trailed, but after leading by as many as 16 points early in the second half (57-41), saw that lead fall to just three points (63-60) with four minutes to play, thanks mainly to a seven-minute scoring drought.
However, with the lead down to three points, Carter took over, scoring the Wildcats' final eight points of the game, grabbing a pair of rebounds and blocking two shots in crunch time. Carter finished the night with 21 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for the third double-double of her season and 27th of her career.
Lynsie Blau had 12 points for ACU, while Jackie Vinson and Ashley King had 11 each.
Tera Newnam of Southeastern led all scorers with 27 points and 18 rebounds.
