Lady Bronchos knock off ACU, 68-65
King scores 19 as ACU drops LSC crossover game
EDMOND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma outscored ACU 5-0 over the last 3:43 of the game Thursday night en route to a 68-65 win over the Wildcats in a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Hamilton Fieldhouse.
The loss drops ACU to 3-5 before Saturday's 2 p.m. game against Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. The Lady Bronchos, meanwhile, improve to 5-0.
The Wildcats led 65-63 with 4:31 to play after a pair of free throws by Melanie Carter. The Lady Bronchos, though, got the game tied at 65-65 at the 3:43 mark on a jumper by April Woods, who then added another bucket with three minutes left to give her team a 67-65 lead.
ACU freshman Ashley King missed a jumper at 2:31 that would have tied the game and then a 3-pointer at 2:21 that would have given the Wildcats the lead. King, however, played an excellent ballgame, leading the Wildcats with 19 points in 30 minutes and doling out five assists while grabbing four rebounds.
UCO's Laura Hamilton hit one of two free throws with 22 seconds left to give the Lady Bronchos their final margin of victory.
The Lady Bronchos were 17 of 24 from the free throw line while the Wildcats were just 6 of 7. UCO also outscored ACU 21-9 from 3-point range.
