Moody Coliseum

Home to ACU Basketball and Volleyball

Opened: Feb. 18, 1968
First Game: Feb. 27, 1968 (ACU men's basketball defeated Arkansas State, 96-93 OT)
Capacity: 3,600

Moody Coliseum has been a central piece of life at Abilene Christian University since its opening in 1968. It hosts chapel services, graduations, countless basketball and volleyball games, and special events for the student body and greater Abilene community.

A major renovation -- the facility's first significant upgrade -- took place from 2020-22 which reduced capacity from 4,100 to approximately 3,600 thanks to larger seats and additional leg room. The first sporting event in the "new" Moody Coliseum was an ACU volleyball match against Oklahoma on Sept. 13, 2022. Notable improvements to the arena include improved accessibility, a 2,000-square-foot club room, the Orr Practice Gymnasium, the Hanner Family Academic Center and Hospitality Suite, offices for coaches and athletics administration, upgraded basketball and volleyball locker rooms, and new training rooms, restrooms, and concession stands. The new face of the exterior includes the addition of three-story towers on the north and south sides.

“Moody Coliseum is at the heart of many of our campus traditions and is a critical part of our athletics program,” said ACU president Dr. Phil Schubert at the time of the renovation's completion. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring the facility not only up to date but to a level that rivals any other venue in the Southwest. I’m so thankful to our donors who believed in the value of this space on campus and made the transformation possible for our students, student-athletes, coaches, fans, alumni, faculty and staff, and guests who visit campus. In addition, Moody will continue to be one of the largest gathering spaces in Abilene and the surrounding area, and it will be a joy to welcome the local community back to campus.”
