Erika Lambert

Erika Lambert enters her eighth season in 2022-23 as the associate head coach for the Abilene Christian Women’s Basketball team. She was named to her current position in June 2015.

Lambert has played a pivotal role in the success of ACU women's basketball since her arrival, helping guide the Wildcats to a 169-68 record (.713 win percentage), including a 113-37 record in conference games in the Southland and WAC, good for a .753 win percentage. Included in that is four season of 23 or more wins. ACU has won three conference championships in that time, including the 2015-16 and 2016-17 regular season titles in the Southland Conference, and the 2018-19 tournament title to earn the program's first-ever bid into the Division I NCAA Tournament.

ACU finished with 24 victories in the 2019-20 season, and finished No. 10 in the entire country in points per game (80.0), but the season was cut short prior to the Southland Tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, ACU has claimed two more spots in the conference tournament, going 14-13 in a wild 2020-21 season, and winning a league tournament game over UIW, before going 17-13 in 2021-22, and 9-9 in the first season in the Western Athletic Conference. ACU qualified for the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, falling to UTRGV in the second round.

ACU won back-to-back regular season titles in 2015-16 and 2016-17, but due to the four-year NCAA ban from the post-season during the transition from Division II to Division I, the Wildcats were only eligible for the WNIT. ACU went to back-to-back WNIT's, falling to UTEP in year one, but beating Oklahoma State in Stillwater on March 16, 2017 to claim the program's first-ever DI postseason win.

Lambert has recruited and coaches 17 all-conference players in her time at ACU, including two league Players of the Year. Lambert is in full charge of the recruiting efforts of the program, coordinating all on and off-campus recruitment, including management of the budget. On the court, Lambert is involved in all individual workouts and practices, primarily focusing on post-player development. She also scouts upcoming opponents and assists in game planning for every game on the schedule.

In addition to these duties, Lambert oversees the academic progress of the student-athletes, and is the liaison to the compliance office at Abilene Christian. She also coordinates alumni relations, community service efforts, and special events for the program.

ACU head coach Julie Goodenough and Lambert previously worked together during the 2011-12 season at Charleston Southern University. That year’s team won 17 games and qualified for its second postseason appearance at the Women’s Basketball Invitational in three years.

Lambert assisted with the instruction of the Buccaneer shooting guards on a team that ranked fourth in the nation in 3-point field goals per game. She also coached All-Big South Conference shooting guard Rachelle Coward, who finished her career with a 4.0 grade-point average and title of Big South Conference Student Athlete of the Year.

After Goodenough departed for Abilene Christian, Lambert stayed on board for one additional year at Charleston Southern as an assistant to head coach Fred Applin. Lambert took over the development of the team’s post players during this season and helped former Wildcat graduate assistant coach Lakeitha Alston earn All-Big South honors behind 16.6 points per game.

During the 2013-14 season Lambert joined Ohio Wesleyan as a volunteer assistant coach and helped the Battling Bishops go from eight to 18 victories, and in 2014-15 she contributed to Bethel (Minnesota) University’s 21-win season, which included an at-large bid to the NCAA DIII Tournament.

As a student-athlete at the College of Charleston, Lambert battled through a series of knee injuries to play in 100 games (74 starts) and provide over 700 points, 400 rebounds and a school record 164 blocked shots. The Mannsville, N.Y., native was a two-year team captain for the Cougars and four-time selection to the Southern Conference All-Academic Honor Roll. One of her best games came against Kennesaw State in December of 2007, during which she scored a career-high 26 points, off a personal-best 13-for-16 effort from the field.

Lambert graduated Cum Laude from the College of Charleston Honors College in 2008 with bachelor’s degrees in corporate communication and historic preservation. She later earned her Master’s of Public Administration from the College of Charleston in 2010.

Lambert has been an active member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association since 2008, and is the co-founder of Moms in Coaching, a group dedicated to supporting mothers in college basketball coaching at all levels. Lambert manages all operations of Moms in Coaching, contributing to a larger effort to keep women in the profession. She leads annual meetings at the Women's Final Four, records and publishes the podcast, and maintains the social media accounts.

Lambert was named a Next Up selection for the 2021 Final Four for the Women Leaders In College Sports. She also serves on the faculty/staff leadership team at ACU for the African American Women's Initiative, a role she has served since 2020. She serves for a group that supports the student experience for Black women on campus, and provides monthly programming to foster personal development, academic progress, and career networking opportunities for students.

She also served on the coaches' leadership team for ACU's Student-Athlete Diversity Council. She programmed weekly meetings to facilitate important discussions concerning racial equality, and initiated community service partnerships a local non-profit organization, Big Country CASA.

She was also elected by her peers to serve a one-year term on the ACU Staff Senate, a decision-making body which represents all staff members on campus. She served that during the 2020-21 season.

Lambert has also served as the faculty / athletics representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' student organization since 2016.

In Nov. 2021, Lambert was named by The Athletic as one of 22 assistant women's basketball coaches ready to lead their own programs.

Lambert, and her husband, Paul, have two daughters, Ava and Mya.
