Biography

NCAA Division II titles (3):  2009: triple jump.  2010: indoor triple jump. 2011: indoor triple jump.

LSC titles (5):  2008: long jump, 4x400 relay.  2009: long jump, triple jump.  2010: triple jump.

2010-11 (senior):  Scored 10 points with victory in the triple jump as the ACU “fab four” defeated runner-up Ashland with 22 athletes, 49-42, for the NCAA Division II indoor title March 12 in Albuquerque.  Sparks leaped 53-0 (16.15) to match his PR in the second round for his convincing victory.  It was his third NCAA Division II national title in the TJ.

2009-10 (junior):  Won his second NCAA title and fifth LSC victory.  Leaped personal best of 53-0 (16.15) at New Mexico invitational in Albuquerque Jan. 30 before claiming NCAA Division II indoor TJ title at 52-3.25 also in Albuquerque March 13.  Also won indoor TJ at Nebraska with 52-8.  Also had best marks of 24-7.25 for runner-up in NCAA indoor long jump and 7.19 in indoor 60.  Moved outdoors with top marks of 52-6.5 (1.6) for fourth at Texas Relays, windy 25-4.75 (6.1) to win LJ at Texas-Arlington and 22.17 (0.3) in 200 at Oliver Jackson Classic.  Also regular member of 4x100 relay that posted best time of 41.10 (Lubbock) and was third at LSC meet in 41.11.  Won LSC triple jump at 50-10 (1.6) and was runner-up in long jump at 24-5.5 (1.4).  Third in NCAA Division II triple jump at 51-7.25 (-0.7) and fifth in NCAA long jump at 24-5 (2.1).  Also won TJ at Texas-Arlington and Oliver Jackson Classic and was third at Penn Relays.

2008-09 (sophomore):  Captured NCAA Division II national title with legal 52-4.75 (-1.7) in San Angelo after 50-2 win at LSC meet in Kingsville.  Runner-up at Mt. SAC and fourth at Texas Relays.  Also led ACU in long jump with windy 24-11.25 for win at Oliver Jackson Classic in Abilene.  LSC winner in long jump at 23-9 and seventh at NCAA national meet (24-1.75).  Also national qualifier indoors in both events in Houston (23-1.25 for 10th, 48-2 for eighth).  Bests were 23-7.5 at USAF and 49-7.75 at Tech. 2007-08 (freshman): Indoor bests were 24-7 (at Tyson in Fayetteville) and 49-5 (for fifth in triple jump at NCAA national meet in Mankato, Minn.). Also fifth in NCAA indoor long jump at 23-2.75. Had outdoor best of windy 24-6.25 at ACU triangular and won LSC title with 23-8.75 in Abilene. Repeated fifth place finish at NCAA outdoor meet in 23-9.5. In triple jump finished fifth in NCAA Division II outdoor meet with 2008 best of 50-4.75.  Also fifth at Texas Relays and third at Lone Star Conference in triple jump. 

2006-07 (freshman):  Redshirt year for the Wildcats.

High School: Two-time Class 4A all-state selection in triple jump. As a junior in 2005, Sparks finished second at state in triple jump (46-2.5). As senior in 2006 he was 12th in the triple jump (44-2). He also competed in football and basketball with all-district and all-conference honors in both sports.
