High school: Havins was one of the top defensive backs in Central Texas, earning first team all-Centex honors by the Austin American Statesman as both a junior and senior. Havins was a two-year first team all-district selection as a free safety at Westwood HS. He was also an all-state selection, two-year team captain and two-year all-region player. As a senior in 2006 he had 150 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a junior he finished with 170 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles, while as a sophomore he had 70 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble.
