Biography

Has a chance to finish his career as the top sack artist in ACU football history. He enters his senior season of 2014 just 10 sacks away from moving past Reuben Mason (34 sacks from 1976-78) into first place on ACU’s all-time sacks list. Richardson has already been named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List. The initial watch list includes 38 defensive linemen, vying for the top defensive end and defensive tackle awards in the Football Championship Subdivision. He enters his senior season of 2014 having started in 15 straight games for the Wildcats going back to the final four games of his sophomore season of 2012.

2013 (Junior): Richardson started all 11 games at defensive end in 2013, Richardson finished the 2013 season with 53 total tackles, including 15.5 tackles for loss. He also had a team-best 11 sacks, which is tied for the fifth-best single-season total in ACU history. He also contributed four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He finished the season with 11 sacks on the season, which is good for tied for sixth on ACU’s all-time single-season sacks list. He had three in the Wildcats’ 52-28 win over New Mexico Highlands on Sept. 14 and two more in the season-ending 65-45 win over Prairie View A&M on Nov. 16. He was a terror against Tarleton State in ACU’s 41-34 overtime loss on Sept. 28 in Frisco, finishing with 10 tackles (four solo stops), two tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

2012 (Sophomore): Wasted little time establishing himself as the Wildcats’ premier pass-rusher as he tied ACU’s record for sacks in a game when he recorded six against McMurry in the season-opener on Sept. 1. Those six sacks tied him with James Henderson – who had six sacks against Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 1, 1997 – for the all-time record. He finished the season with 9.5 sacks as he drew constant double-teams from ACU’s opposition. Still, he finished with 50 tackles (27 solo stops) and 14.5 tackles for loss to go along with the 9.5 sacks. He also had one forced fumble, three quarterback hurries and two pass breakups. He earned honorable mention all-Lone Star Conference honors for his play.

2011 (Freshman): Played in all 11 games for an NCAA Division II national playoff team. Richardson started in eight games and played in all 11 games, finishing the season with 31 tackles (20 solo), including 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks.  He also had three quarterback hurries and one blocked kick.  He had a season-high five tackles (two solo) in ACU’s season-opening win over Talreton State and then again in the regular-season finale over Incarate Word (five solo).  He had sacks against Angelo State on Sept. 24, at Midwestern State on Oct. 22 and against Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 29.

High school: First team all-district defensive end. Was two-year letterman.
