Biography

 

Returns to the starting shortstop role that he filled so capably late in the 2007 season.  2007 (Freshman):_ Uechi’s strong play in the fall before the 2007 season started earned him the top backup spot at both second base and shortstop.  But just before the first game of the season against Henderson State, head coach Britt Bonneau penciled him into the starting lineup in right field.  That decision proved to be a great one for the Wildcats as Uechi ? who started in right field and at second base, third base and shortstop throughout the season ? went on to start all 60 games for the Wildcats.  He hit .370 on the season with 23 multi-hit games to his credit.  Uechi was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Freshman of the Year and was voted first team all-LSC_South Division.  He was also voted first team NCAA_all-South Central Region by Daktronics.  Uechi started 28 games at shortstop in 2007, including the final 19 straight of the season.  Among Uechi’s 23 mult-hit games was a season-best five-hit, five-RBI_game in a 25-4 win over East Central on Feb. 17.  He had one double and four singles in the game that saw ACU_establish season-bests in runs scored (25) and hits (25).  Uechi had a .970 fielding percentage as he had just seven errors on 240 chances.  High school:  A three-year letterwinner at Marshall HS, Uechi was a two-time first team all-District 27-5A performer and the district MVP_as a senior.  Also as a senior he was first team all-city, first team all-area and second team Class 5A all-state.  He led Marshall to the 27-5A championship as a senior, and he also earned Class 5A_academic all-state honors.  As a senior he was named the Marshall HS_Male Athlete of the Year, and he played in the Class 4A-5A_Texas All-Star Game in the summer of 2006.  As a junior he hit .346 with three doubles and one home run, and then followed that as a senior by hitting .426 with 12 doubles and one home run and posting a fielding percentage of .982.  Personal:  Born 29 April 1988.  2006 graduate of John Marshall High School.
