Was the biggest surprise of the second half of the season for the Wildcats as he took over the starting job at second base after J.J. Pacheco went down with a shoulder injury and played very well.  Will battle Pacheco for the starting job at second base in 2008.  2007 (Sophomore):_ Started at second base in 22 of the Wildcats’ final 24 games, including the last 14 of the season.  Finished the season with a team-best .417 batting average, although he only recorded 103 official at-bats.  His best game of the season came in a March 18 win over Cameron when he went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBI.  In the Wildcats’ 12-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Lone Star Conference Post-Season Tournament, Bumpass was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI.  In 112 chances in the field, Bumpass made just two errors (.982 fielding percentage).  2006 (Freshman):  Played in 25 games with 15 starts, finishing with a .250 batting average, one home run and 12 RBI.  Had a career-best three runs scored on March 24 against Cameron, and had two three-RBI_games (Feb. 4 vs. Henderson State and March 20 vs. SW Oklahoma State).  His first collegiate home run came on March 20 against Southwestern Oklahoma State.  High school:  First team all-district performer in 2005 after hitting .427 and helping Langham Creek to a 20-8 record.  He was the team’s MVP and was a first team selection to the all-Greater Houston Class 5A team by the Houston Chronicle.  Personal:  Born 31 July 1987.  2005 graduate of Langham Creek High School.
