Biography

Enters his fifth-year senior season with a chance to become the Wildcats’ all-time leader in two major career pitching categories.  He enters the season third on the all-time victories list with 25 and needs seven to pass Casey Towery (31 from 1996-99) as the Wildcats’ all-time leader in wins.  He’s also fifth in innings pitched with 264 2/3 and is 56 2/3 innings of work away from passing Mark Ferry (321 innings from 1993-96) atop that list.  He is fifth on the games pitched list with 53, but would need to pitch in 18 games in 2008 to pass Kristian Allen (70 games from 1997-2000) as the all-time leader.  He is eighth on the strikeout list with 196 and can move past Sam Carpenter (259 strikeouts from 1961-64) into second place behind all-time leader Bill Gilbreth (445 from 1966-69) with 64 strikeouts this season.  2007 (Senior):  Started strong, allowing just one run over 15 innings of work in his first two starts.  However, in the second inning of _a March 2 game against Southeastern Oklahoma State, Maynard suffered a back injury that would eventually cost him the rest of his season.  He was very strong in his first two starts, including hurling a complete-game (nine innings)_shutout in an 8-0 ACU_win over St. Mary’s on Feb. 6.  In that game, Maynard allowed just five hits and didn’t walk a batter while recording four strikeouts.  2006 (Junior):  Finished among Lone Star Conference leaders in victories (8-3) and strikeouts (64) on his way to earning honorable mention all-LSC_South Division honors.  Saved his best for his next-to-last start of the season when he shut down Angelo State in a 5-0 Wildcat win over the Rams in an elimination game of the LSC_Post-Season Tournament.  In that May 8 game at Crutcher Scott Field, Maynard scattered five hits and only one walk over eight shutout innings as the Wildcats knocked the Rams from the post-season.  He struck out five batters and got a pair of Rams to hit into double plays that erased base hits.  He left the game to a standing ovation after striking out the final man he faced to end the eighth inning.  Maynard also continued his career-long trend of not allowing hitters to reach base via the walk.  He only gave up 31 in 88 2/3 innings of work (0.35 walks per inning), and for his career he has 2.1 strikeouts for every walk allowed (only 90 walks in 248 2/3 innings).  2005 (Sophomore):  Established himself as one of the top pitchers in the NCAA_South Central Region, finishing 9-1 with a 3.92 ERA and earning first team all-LSC_South Division honors as well as second team all-region honors.  Maynard displayed remarkable control during the season, averaging 2.7 strikeouts to every walk, and averaging just two walks per start (26 walks in 13 starts).  He allowed only 71 hits all season, giving up an average of 0.83 hits per inning.  He never allowed more than seven hits in any of his 15 appearances during the season, and only once during the  year did he allow seven hits (April 29 vs. Eastern New Mexico).  Nine times he allowed one or fewer earned walks in a game.  He allowed almost half his season total of 26 walks in his first three starts when he gave up a combined 12 walks against St. Mary’s (Feb. 8), Cameron (Feb. 19) and Central Oklahoma (Feb. 25).  2004 (Freshman):__Maynard was promoted to the varsity early in the  season.  He didn’t disappoint, posting a 6-2 record with a 4.44 ERA and earning second team all-Lone Star Conference South Division honors.  In 75 innings of work, he allowed 75 hits, 43 runs and 33 walks while striking out 57 batters.  Maynard recorded a career-best 13 strikeouts in only 6-2/3 innings of work on March 6 in a win over St. Edward’s.  High school:  Four-year letterwinner in high school who led his team to a 20-8 record as a senior.  Named all-conference from 2001-03 and was an all-state pick as a senior in 2003.  Personal:  2003 graduate of Loveland High School.  Born 06 November 1984.
