Wildcats Outshoot East Texas but Fall Short on the Road

COMMERCE, Texas – Abilene Christian soccer came up short Sunday evening, falling 1–0 in a road match against East Texas A&M, despite controlling much of the play and generating multiple chances.

The Wildcats, now 3-3-0, fired off 25 total shots, including 18 in the second half, while earning nine corner kicks and holding a slight edge in possession. Shakira Kafero Roberts paced the offense with four attempts, while Peyton Hill and Amelia Leggett each tallied three. McCarly Holloman added three shots while anchoring the back line with a full 90-minute performance.

Between the posts, Emma Konsmo collected two saves in the first half before Bella Medrano came on to record three key stops over the final 45 minutes, keeping the Wildcats within striking distance throughout the contest.

"A disappointing result on the road," said head coach Stephen Salas. "We didn't overcome the adversity of going down 0-1 within the first five minutes and multiple lightning delays. We made adjustments at half which created multiple goal scoring opportunities that we couldn't put away. Their goalkeeper had a great game keeping us out of the net with many crucial saves. With creating 25 shots and nine corners we have to capitalize and will be sure to make those adjustments going into training, and the next couple of games."

ACU will now regroup and prepare for one more road game before returning home to Elmer Gray Stadium, with a look ahead to North Texas on September 4. Kickoff in Denton is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
