LUBBOCK – Abilene Christian Baseball put together a solid day at the plate with 12 hits, but couldn't hold off a hot Texas Tech offense, falling 16–4 in eight innings Tuesday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.
Diego Cardenas continued his strong season at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth—his 12th of the year—and an RBI single in the seventh.
ACU jumped on the board early in the second inning. Maddox Miesse led off with a single and Grant Watkins followed by hammering a two-run homer to right field, his 13th of the season. The Wildcats added another run in the fifth on Cardenas' long ball and plated their fourth run in the seventh when Benjamin Greer doubled and scored on Cardenas' single.
Sophomore Ranse Radtke had a productive day, going 2-for-4 with a double, and Reese Borho, Brady Gray, and Holden Rook each chipped in with hits to round out a balanced offensive effort.
On the mound, freshman Brady Coe tossed a scoreless second inning in relief, and OJ Gonzalez also put up a clean sixth inning with just 12 pitches. ACU used nine pitchers in the midweek matchup to manage the workload ahead of the weekend.
The Wildcats stay on the road for their last conference series this weekend. Heading west to California Baptist, ACU still has a chance to climb up the standings. The three-game series starts on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. CT.
