ABILENE - The ACU softball team kicked off its string of back-to-back midweek games with a 7-0 loss to North Texas on Tuesday night at Poly Wells Field.
The Wildcats will host No. 14 Texas Tech on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m..
After both teams went 3-up, 3-down in the first inning, the Mean Green struck first with a 2-run home run to right by Rylee Nicholson.
ACU elected to go with a pitching-by-committee strategy with starter
Ella Beeman exiting after two innings.
Chase Mueller pitched a perfect third frame before getting roughed up in the fourth. UNT scored on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, and a fielder's choice before Mueller forced a popout to first baseman Elizabeth Schaeffer to extinguish the threat.
Taylor Bachmeyer, the Wildcats' strongest hitter, came in from right field to toe the rubber for the first time since a short appearance against Oregon State on March 9.
Bachmeyer managed to get her first two batters to fly out before giving up a homer to right.Â
Taylor Haywood, one of the heroes on last Saturday's 9-8 comeback win versus Utah Tech, manned the circle for the final two innings.
ACU broke up a no-hitter by UNT's Anneca Anderson in the 7th when Schaefer drilled a single to left for the Wildcats' lone hit on the evening.
Wednesday's home game against Texas Tech will also be ACU's Purple Out, presented by First Financial Bank. Fans are encouraged to wear their purple and cheer on the Wildcats against the Red Raiders.
ACU is 2-3 at home against Tech with an 11-10 home win in 2018, and a 7-2 victory in 2022.
