ABILENE – Abilene Christian delivered its most dominant performance of the season on Sunday afternoon, overwhelming Prairie View A&M 23-1 at Crutcher Scott Field. The Wildcats completed the series sweep, piling up 18 hits and taking full advantage of six Panther errors to improve to 11-5 on the year.
ACU's offense ignited in the second inning, scoring three runs to set the tone for an explosive day at the plate. The third inning saw the Wildcats put up five more, capped by Nick Arias' towering three-run home run to left-center. The fourth inning proved to be the biggest of the game, as ACU sent 13 batters to the plate and pushed across eight runs, stretching the lead to double digits. By the time the Wildcats tacked on four more in the fifth and three in the sixth, the game was well out of reach.
Arias finished with three hits and three RBIs, leading an offense that saw production from up and down the lineup. Maddox Miesse delivered a pair of RBI singles, while Jack Nielsen drove in two runs with a sharp single through the left side. Braden Regala and Benjamin Greer each contributed multiple RBIs, while Reese Borho, Holden Rook, and Louis Bussard provided late-inning run support.
The Wildcats' pitching staff was equally impressive. Cade McGarrh earned the win, allowing just one run on two hits over four innings while striking out six. David Jeon, Blaine Palmer, and OJ Gonzalez combined for three shutout innings, surrendering just one additional hit and striking out four. The trio kept Prairie View A&M off balance, ensuring there would be no comeback attempt.
ACU's defense was flawless, playing error-free baseball while capitalizing on every mistake by Prairie View A&M. The Wildcats' aggressive baserunning, including two stolen bases by Greer and Borho, added another layer to their offensive onslaught.
The Wildcats will spend midweek in Nacogdoches, taking on SFA on Wednesday. After Wednesday, ACU will play Sam Houston on their turf in a three-game series from March 14 to 16.
