HUNTSVILLE – The Abilene Christian Wildcats secured a series victory against Sam Houston despite falling 2-1 in the final game of the three-game set at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Wildcats claimed victories in the first two games of the series before dropping Sunday's finale to the Bearkats. ACU's lone run came in the second inning when Maddox Miesse reached on a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Benjamin Greer provided a double spark at the plate, while Nick Arias added a triple.
Starting pitcher Cade McGarrh turned in a solid performance, tossing six innings with five strikeouts while allowing two earned runs. Henry Cone and Caden Greanead combined for two shutout innings in relief to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.
Sam Houston scored both runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Blake Brown's RBI triple and a subsequent error that allowed the go-ahead run to score. Reliever Zak Johnson earned the win for Sam Houston after three scoreless innings, while Danny Valadez closed the door with a two-out save.
Despite Sunday's setback, ACU takes the series 2-1 and continues its strong start to the season. The Wildcats will return home this week for their final non-conference game against SFA.
The Wildcats will be hosting worship night at Crutcher Scott on Wednesday. If you wear your ACU Baseball's "Jesus Won" shirt, you're eligible for free admission to the game. Get your shirt today with this link.
