Wildcats Beat Lions For First Win

COMMERCE — The ACU Wildcats earned their first win of the 2025 season Sunday afternoon at Cain Family Field as they closed out their stay in the Lion Invitational with an 8-0 run-rule victory over the hosts from East Texas A&M.

The Wildcats (1-9) scored in every inning except the second in the five-inning win over the Lions (2-8). ACU is back in action this weekend at the Oklahoma Tournament in Norman, Oklahoma, although that tournament has been pushed to a Saturday-Monday format because of the likelihood of arctic-like temperatures and potential for freezing precipitation through Friday.

ACU will play No. 3 Oklahoma at 12 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 2:30 p.m. game against Tulsa. The Wildcats will play a single game on Sunday – 1:30 p.m. vs. Wichita State – before playing Wichita State at 11 a.m. and Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Here's a recap of Sunday's win over East Texas A&M:

ACU 8, East Texas A&M 0 (5 innings) – The Wildcats scored twice in the first, twice more in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the fifth to get the run-rule victory. Lina Russo picked up her first win of the season in the circle, allowing just an infield single in the fourth inning and one walk while striking out six Lion hitters.

Designated player Catrin Hoffman led the ACU offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and three RBI. She had an RBI single in the first to put ACU on top 2-0. She added a two-run double to left-centerfield in the third to make it a 4-0 game. Chase Mueller had a pinch-hit RBI single in the fifth, and pinch-hitter Isabel Martinez had an RBI bases-loaded walk in the fifth to make it 8-0.

First baseman Elizabeth Schaefer was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, and Rachel Cook drove in a run and scored twice for the Wildcats.
