HOUSTON – The Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-0-4) extended their undefeated streak with a 0-0 draw against Houston Christian (1-3-2) on Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field. Despite a dominating offensive performance by the Wildcats, they could not break through the Huskies' defense, marking their fourth tie of the season.
The Wildcats outshot the Huskies 15-4, with five shots on target compared to just one from the home side. ACU goalkeeper Lili Ross secured one save in the first half before being replaced by Julia Herges in the second.
"An incredible testament to our team's defending and resiliency to stay unbeaten throughout the first six games of our season," said head coach Stephen Salas. "This has created a strong foundation and standard for our program. I am incredibly proud of the team for their fight and grit.
ACU applied steady pressure, generating six corner kicks and spending much of the match in the attacking half. Forward Peyton Hill and defender Macie Stephens led the offensive efforts with three shots each, while midfielder Emma Nylund added another two attempts.
Despite the Wildcats' best efforts, the Huskies' defense remained resilient, limiting clear scoring opportunities.
"We made some adjustments to our attack before the game and found multiple chances throughout the game," Salas said. "A couple of opportunities off the post and good saves from the HCU goalkeeper today. We will continue to grow and adapt from each game in training and through film review. We've outshot every opponent this season and will continue to grow and adapt our attack each game."
This result keeps the Wildcats' unbeaten record intact as they look ahead to their next away matchup against ranked #20 Mississippi State on Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. and then coming back home for Senior Day against North Texas on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
"These matchups challenge us with our vision of creating a top 50 program here at ACU," Salas said.
