Records Fall in Softball Twin Bill

ABILENE – Abilene Christian and Sammie Shelander set two new school Division I-era records but the Wildcats dropped a pair of games, 6-0 and 9-2 on Friday.

ACU scorched three doubles in the first game to break the team's single-season record of 75. Riley White had the record-tying double and Catrin Hoffman hit the record-breaker with her second two-base hit of the game.

Shelander hit safely for the 19th consecutive game to break the school record of 18, set by Peyton Hedrick in 2018. The hit came on her last at-bat and she ripped a hard grounder past the frozen third baseman and into left field.

The Wildcats had six hits in the game with Hoffman and Kaydee Bennett getting two each. Bubba Rote, Shelander, White and Olivia Marble had one each.

Lina Russo took the loss with seven strikeouts over seven innings.

Shelander, whose streak ended in the second game, still produced with a sacrifice fly to give the Cats a 1-0 lead in the third inning. UTA scored seven in the second and two in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead.

Isabel Martinez scored on a wild pitch for the second ACU run.

Five Wildcats had singles in the game: Bennett, Marble, White, Hoffman and Skylar Padgett.

Ella Beeman took the loss.

The teams finish the three-game series at noon on Sunday.
