HARLINGEN – Abilene Christian took the doubles point but Grand Canyon won four singles matches and eliminated ACU in the WAC Men's Tennis Tournament semifinals, 4-2 on Friday.
ACU won the doubles point behind victories on court one by
Cesar Barranquero and
Daniel Morozov and court three by
Merse Deli and
Jose Maria Rastrojo.
Benjamin McDonald and
Ethan Scribner were tied with their GCU opponents on court two, 4-4, when the doubles point was determined.
GCU tied the match at 1-1 with a quick singles win on line five.
WAC Freshman of the Year
Martin Delnido put the Wildcats ahead 2-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Lopes won on courts four and two and three to take the match. Morozov was one game away from taking his match at No. 1 singles, leading 7-5, 6-5.
ACU finishes the season at 10-12.
