Wildcats Get Big Road Win at UTA

ARLINGTON – Abilene Christian opened Western Athletic Conference action with an impressive 4-3 win at UT Arlington on Friday.

The Wildcats won the doubles point with Maria Cascos and Masha Vrsalovic winning at No. 1 and Andrea Guerrero and Olivia Sears getting a 7-6 (11-9) win at No. 3.

UTA went ahead 2-1 after winning the first two completed singles matches but Andrea Guerrero tied the score with a straight-set win at No. 5.

Cascos got ACU a 3-2 lead with her three-set win at No. 4 singles but UTA tied it again, putting things in the hands of Wildcat freshman Libby Blair.

Blair lost the first set at No. 6 singles but rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set and won the final set 7-6 (7-4).

"It was a great team win today," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "We knew it was going to take everyone and the girls battled in every single match. It was huge to get the doubles point and a clutch performance from our freshman, Libby, to pull out the win!"

ACU now travels to play UTRGV on Sunday in Edinburg.
