ARLINGTON – Abilene Christian opened Western Athletic Conference action with an impressive 4-3 win at UT Arlington on Friday.
The Wildcats won the doubles point with
Maria Cascos and
Masha Vrsalovic winning at No. 1 and
Andrea Guerrero and
Olivia Sears getting a 7-6 (11-9) win at No. 3.
UTA went ahead 2-1 after winning the first two completed singles matches but
Andrea Guerrero tied the score with a straight-set win at No. 5.
Cascos got ACU a 3-2 lead with her three-set win at No. 4 singles but UTA tied it again, putting things in the hands of Wildcat freshman
Libby Blair.
Blair lost the first set at No. 6 singles but rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set and won the final set 7-6 (7-4).
"It was a great team win today," said ACU Head Coach
Bryan Rainwater. "We knew it was going to take everyone and the girls battled in every single match. It was huge to get the doubles point and a clutch performance from our freshman, Libby, to pull out the win!"
ACU now travels to play UTRGV on Sunday in Edinburg.
