ABILENE – A 34-point fourth quarter by Stephen F. Austin was Abilene Christian's undoing in an 89-83 loss on Saturday.
The Wildcats led for most of the game and won all three of the previous quarters before the defensive lapse. ACU carried a 68-55 lead into the fourth quarter.
ACU had five turnovers in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter but still had a 68-62 lead with seven minutes to play.
SFA got the lead with 3:02 remaining and never gave it back.
Payton Hull led ACU with 29 points and four steals and
Addison Martin contributed 18 points. The Wildcats had 19 turnovers for the game.
With the loss, ACU drops to 11-12 overall and 7-7 in the WAC.
The Wildcats hit the road next week with games Thursday at California Baptist and Saturday at Grand Canyon.
