RIVERSIDE, CA. – The Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-5-6) were unable to secure the win against California Baptist University (6-4-2), falling 2-1 in Riverside Sunday night.
ACU took the lead in the 42nd minute with Amelia Leggett's first goal of the season with an assist from McCarly Holloman. Lili Ross had a total of seven saves on the night.
Offensively, the Wildcats managed 11 total shots with eight shots on frame from Leggett, Emma Nylund, Peyton Hill, Malia Cerdon, Chayse Thorn, Gracie Kelly, Hannah Gage and Georgia Gunther.
In the second half, CBU tied the game with a shot from Lauryn White and assists from Rilee Harmon and Jayden Ramirez. The Lancers then took the lead in the 70th minute with a shot from Jana Heinen and an assist by Morgan Witz, securing the 2-1 final score.
Despite the upset, ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas is pleased with how hard his team fought until the final buzzer.
"This was one of the best games I've seen us play when it comes to how hard we fought," Salas said. "Our team is coming together. This team will respond and I'm ready to watch us compete next against UVU."
ACU will continue WAC play on the road against Utah Valley University (9-4-1) on Oct. 12. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+. Live Stats will also be available for the game.
