CEDAR CITY, Utah – Abilene Christian had a three-point shot blocked at the buzzer and saw a late rally go for naught in an 82-80 loss at Southern Utah on Saturday.
ACU trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter and began the fourth behind 72-61. The Wildcats whittled away at the lead and
Payton Hull tied things up with a layup, 77-77, with 2:25 remaining.
Hull delivered the lead on ACU's next offensive trip down the floor, canning a three-pointer for an 80-79 lead with 1:45 to play. That was the end of the offense for the Cats, however. ACU missed two shots, turned the ball over twice and couldn't take advantage of a decent last two minutes of defense.
Hull led the Wildcats with 27 points and three steals.
Meredith Mayes added 18 points and
Aspen Thornton came up with 12.
ACU was held to 5-of-26 shooting (19.2 percent) from three-point range.
The Cats finish off this four-game road swing at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Tarleton State.
