ALBUQUERQUE –
Ella Anttila broke her own school record and finished 12
th as Abilene Christian's first Division I entrant in the NCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday.
Â
After fouling on her first jump, Anttila cleared 44 feet and three-quarters of an inch or 13.43 meters on her second jump. That broke the ACU record she had just set at the WAC Championships by more than five inches. For the moment, she was in ninth but slipped to 12
th in the final standings.
Â
She cleared 13 meters again on her final jump, coming in at 13.15 (43-1.75). The 12
th-place finish was impressive, coming against a field in which 13 of the 16 athletes had personal records. Champion Jasmine Moore broke her own college and meet record, clearing 49-7.25.
Â
"I am so proud of Ella and how she competed today," said ACU Head Coach
Jerrod Cook. "She has a personal best to get here and then got another one today on this stage. The talent there today was incredible and she showed today how tremendous of a competitor she is."
Â
The jumps bring ACU's indoor season to a close and the Wildcats open the outdoor season next weekend, hosting the Wes Kittley Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
