ABILENE – Abilene Christian finished its soccer season with a 3-0 setback at the hands of California Baptist on Sunday.
A year after going winless in the Western Athletic Conference, the Wildcats had seven conference points and played a meaningful game in the last week of the season.
"I think we've really seen that we can go toe to toe with the best teams in the conference," said ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas. "That shift in mentality has changed and we're definitely going to be there next year. California Baptist is a great team. They only have one loss. They scored three of their goals on set pieces and we needed to do a better job of that, but I'm proud of our girls."
Jayden Ramirez scored with a free kick assist coming from Taylor Summit for a 1-03 lead in the 34
th minute and Jana Heinen scored from long distance on a free kick in the 36
th minute.
ACU tried to deflect a rolling ball and ended up giving an own goal to CBU in the 82
nd minute.
The Wildcats had three shots on the day with
Chayse Thorn taking two and
Jordan Michie coming up with ACU's only shot on goal.
Savanna Alba had two second-half saves.
ACU ends the season at 7-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the WAC.
