LUBBOCK, Texas – The ACU baseball team will have its toughest test of the 2022 season on Tuesday night when it takes on No. 9 Texas Tech of the Big 12 on the road. The Wildcats (19-20, 8-10 WAC) will play the Red Raiders (29-14, 9-6 Big 12) twice in the next two Tuesday's, with the first being played in Lubbock before the teams come to Abilene on May 3. The first meeting between the schools since 2016 gets underway at 6:30 p.m., and airs on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ as well as 102.7 The Bear.

ACU STORYLINES

  • WHERE THE WILDCATS STAND – ACU currently sits in fourth place in the WAC Southwest Division at 8-10. The Wildcats have 12 games left in conference play, including three games with first-place Sam Houston (13-5), second-place Lamar (11-7), fifth-place SFA (7-11), and sixth-place Tarleton (6-12). ACU and Tarleton meet for three games this weekend.
  • AN EYE ON THE STREAKS – Grayson Tatrow leads the way with a six-game hitting streak and a 31-game on-base streak. Colton Eager has reached safely in 25 consecutive games, while Hunter Gieser has a 14-game on-base streak, and Miller Ladusau has an 11-game streak.
  • MULTI-HIT GAMES – Eager leads the way with 15 mult-hit games, while Tatrow and Bash Randle have 12 each and Mitchell Dickson has 11.

  • HUNTING DOWN PITCHING – Grad student Hunter Gieser went off in Friday's game at Fresno State. The first baseman tallied two hits, both long balls, his sixth and seventh of the year, and matched a career-high with five RBI.
  • TATROW'S WEEKEND – Tatrow hit .583 for the weekend against UTRGV, and slugged a ridiculous 1.167 in three games. Of his seven hits, four were doubles and one left the park. The center fielder drove in five for the weekend to lead the 'Cats.
  • CERVANTES' WINNING OUTING – Senior pitcher Genner Cervantes got the win in game one of the doubleheader against UTRGV on Saturday. Cervantes pitched 6.0 great innings, allowing two earned on five hits with seven strikeouts. He now has 30 punchouts in the last five games.

  • The Red Raiders took two-out-of-three from West Virginia over the weekend, winning the first two games in the Saturday doubleheader, 7-5 and 12-2, before dropping the finale on Sunday, 15-4.
  • Texas Tech has an incredibly dynamic offense, slugging .512 with 108 doubles, 11 triples, and 63 home runs.
  • Kurt Wilson leads the way with 53 RBI, while Jace Jung leads TTU with 11 home runs.
